Toulouse Crepe
What started out as part of the menu in Michel Baudouin's French Bistro
Bouchon and then opened as a stand alone concept called Bouchon Street Food is now Creperie Bouchon. Both businesses are located next to each other on Lexington Avenue in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. The menu offers a variety of crepes, both savory and sweet, as well as soup, salad, frites, sandwiches, quiche, fondue, escargot and cheese & pate plate. For a street food concept there is plenty to choose from on the menu with many items boasting local ingredients.

Entrance to Creperie Bouchon
Adding to the small empire is a small Ultimate Ice Cream shop at the alley entrance leading to the Creperie. Lexington Avenue has a growing list of wonderful dining spots, but Michel is making it very easy to be a one stop dining venue all by itself!

Creperie Bouchon Courtyard
To find Creperie Bouchon - enter at the sign next to Bouchon, walk under the giant ice cream cone, down the alley past the Ultimate Ice Cream shop and into a beautiful hidden courtyard that sheds a delightful European feel to get you in the mood for a distinct French street food dining experience. Asheville has long been called the Paris of the South and now there is even more reason to do so.

Creperie Bouchon Interior
Dining choices are inside with the added value of watching your meal being made or outside to enjoy the weather (if its a nice day out). Inside can be a little stuffy but watching the staff prepare the crepes is a show you have to watch at least once. Making the crepe is part skill, part art and part really cool!

Flipping the crepe
I chose the Toulouse crepe with caramelized onion, fresh mushroom, goat cheese and duck confit. It didn't take long to create and fold the crepe to fit onto the plate. I was ravenous and wondered if one crepe would be enough but since they are quick to make I figured I could always order another. I took my crepe and a bottle of water out to the courtyard to enjoy the sunshine and the atmosphere.

Adding the duck confit to my Toulouse crepe
Delicious! I'm a salt guy so I could have used a tad more salt. That said I loved it! The duck was outstanding, the mushrooms added their earthiness, the cheese added its creaminess and my taste buds did a little French jig.

Sauteed onions scooped onto the crepe
Sometimes big things come in small packages. There was no way that I could eat another crepe. Besides being good to eat, it was filling to boot. With crepe prices between $6 - $9, it has a good value as well. Sure beats a fast food alternative.

I love how Michel and Creperie Bouchon Manager, Craig Peters, are billing this great find...
